The GBA Memorials

The Memorials Committee monitors the obituaries and other sources which may provide information about the deaths of current and former members of the Association.  Upon learning of the death of a member, the Committee, through the Executive Director of the Association, notifies the membership of funeral arrangements and arranges for flowers to be sent to the family or a memorial contribution to be made in memory of the deceased.  The Committee arranges for a member of the Association to prepare a memorial to the deceased and to present it at a meeting of the membership.  The Committee requests that the person preparing the memorial invite family members, including the surviving spouse and children of the deceased, to attend the meeting at which the memorial is to be presented as the guests of the Association.  The Executive Director maintains an archive of the memorials which have been presented to the Association.

The Memorials Committee should be comprised of several members of the Association, each of whom is charged with the responsibilities of monitoring the obituaries and other sources of information and notifying the committee chair upon the discovery of the death of any member.  Having several members sharing in this responsibility should reduce the chances of a member's death going unreported.
