About the GBA Foundation
The Greensboro Bar Association Foundation, Inc. is the bar-related entity through which many members of the Greensboro Bar Association extend their generosity to worthy causes in the community. Under the rules of the Foundation, monetary grants are made yearly to law-related organizations or projects. Applications are accepted annually from June 1 to August 1. The procedure is explained and the application is provided by viewing the Foundation Grant Application and Procedures.
Our Purpose
The objects and purposes for which this corporation is organized are:
- To carry on the following educational, literary, scientific and charitable purposes or any of them both directly and by the application of assets to the use of the Greensboro Bar Association, for charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes, or to any other corporation, trust, fund or foundation whose purposes and operations are charitable, scientific, literary or educational:
- To foster and maintain the honor and integrity of the law;
- To study, improve and to facilitate the administration of justice;
- To promote the study of the law and research therein, the diffusion of knowledge thereof, and the continuing education of lawyers;
- To cause to be published and to distribute addresses, reports, treatises and other literary works on legal subjects;
- To maintain a law library and research center;
- To acquire, preserve and exhibit rare books and documents, objects or art, and items of historical interest having legal significance or bearing on the administration of justice;
To promote suitable standards of legal education.
Foundation Projects
From time to time, the Board of Directors initiates a special project which may require funding from the Foundation plus additional input, both in volunteer hours and monetary contributions, from the GBA members. Past projects include eight Habitat for Humanity houses and playground equipment for Foust Elementary School.
Annual CLE Seminar
The Greensboro Bar Association executes a Continuing Legal Education seminar each year that serves as the sole fundraiser for the GBA Foundation. The seminar is open to member and non-member attorneys in Guilford County and the surrounding area. Proceeds from the event help fund foundation projects and community grants. Foundation Bylaws
The Bylaws of the Greensboro Bar Association Foundation, Inc. were most recently amended in 2018 to alter the composition of the board to correspond with the Articles of Incorporation.
