Press Announcement by Senior Resident Superior Court Judge John O. Craig, III

Due to a positive COVID test result involving a county employee employed by the Sheriff’s Department, and the resulting need for contact tracing with quarantine precautions while awaiting test results, the Guilford County Courthouse in Greensboro will be closed to the public for the remainder of this week, October 21 at 2 P.M. through Tuesday, October 27 at 5 P.M. The Greensboro Courthouse will reopen to the public on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 8 A.M. District Court first appearances and 50B court will continue to operate as scheduled. Secured custody cases in juvenile court will operate on Friday, October 23 and Monday, October 26, 2020. The court operations at the courthouse in High Point are unaffected and will remain open.

Swearing-In 2020 Scheduled for October 16, 2020

This year the Young Lawyers Section of the Greensboro Bar Association has organized a Virtual Swearing-In Ceremony for newly admitted lawyers to be sworn into state and federal court.

The ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020
via Zoom.

The Guilford County Clerk of Superior Court will extend its hours of operation to the public from 8:30am until 3:00pm beginning Monday, October 5, 2020. Masks are required to be worn in the courthouse and in the Clerk of Court’s office.

This serves as notice that due to several employees testing positive for COVID19, the Guilford County Health Department has directed the Civil and Criminal Clerks’ Departments in the Greensboro Courthouse to close for forty-eight hours. Therefore, all courts in the Greensboro Courthouse are suspended from July 22-23, 2020, EXCEPT Juvenile Delinquency Court, DHHS Court and First Appearances. All courts will resume on Friday, July 24, 2020, unless otherwise notified.
High Point courts are NOT impacted.

Amended COVID-19 Court Memorandum 6-26-20

Good afternoon,

I hope all is well with each of you.  The coronavirus has impacted communities and our courts in a manner that has left many people feeling uneasy and a bit anxious (at best).  However, we still must make every effort to continue to provide access to justice within the context of the recommended health and safety COVID19 guidelines.  I am aware that we have issued several amendments and/modifications in the past few months.  However, the coronavirus is unprecedented for our courts.  We must proceed with caution as we make attempts to preserve the health and well-being of court personnel, attorneys, and the public.

Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the dilemma that we are faced with.  Please see the attached documents below with updates and schedules for the upcoming month(s).  Feel free to contact our office if you have any questions or comments.

Guilford County Courthouses Closing Until June 22, 2020

“Due to a number of courthouse employees who have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, both the Greensboro and High Point Courthouses will immediately be closed until June 22 to give Guilford County the opportunity to thoroughly sanitize the facilities. The public will not be allowed into the courthouses and employees are instructed to stay home during this time. The county health department has initiated contact tracing and if a courthouse employee is identified by the county to have come into close contact with the infected individuals, he or she will be quarantined and tested. We regret this unfortunate occurrence, but our paramount concern is the safety of the public and all courthouse staff.”

Amended Admin Order COVID-19 (Filed)

Effective Monday, March 16th, we will not be holding court unless there is an emergency situation for Superior Court Civil matters in Guilford County. Therefore, all matters, trials and motions, currently scheduled to be heard from Monday, March 16th through Monday, April 13th in Superior Court will be postponed.  If you believe your matter falls under an emergency circumstance, such as requesting a Civil Temporary Restraining Order, please contact Brittany Robinson (Greensboro) at Brittany R. Robinson or Wendy Stuart (High Point) Wendy J. Stuart for direction and scheduling concerns. 

 

Attention:  Attorneys who currently have motions scheduled during this time period will need to reschedule those motions once a definitive reopening of the Courts is confirmed.
