In Memoriam: William (Bill) Marion Wilcox IV

April 29, 2026/in May 2026, Newsletter

William (Bill) Marion Wilcox IV

December 26, 1952 – April 16, 2016

William (Bill) Marion Wilcox IV, 73, passed away on April 16, 2026, peacefully at home in Greensboro, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. Bill courageously fought two kinds of cancer and will forever be an inspiration to his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife Stephanie Jo (Stevie) Wilcox, his daughter Ann Louise Fields, son-in-law Michael Fields and grandson Graham William Fields. He is also survived by his siblings; Elizabeth (Betsy) Wilcox, Mary Hultman and Henry Wilcox (Robyn); as well as his beloved sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Marion Wilcox III and Emma Worth Mitchell Wilcox.

Bill attended both Washington and Lee University and Miami University, Ohio, graduating with a B.S. in 1975 from Miami University, Ohio. He then attended Wake Forest University School of Law, graduating with a J.D. in 1982. In addition to being an attorney, Bill was also a Certified Public Accountant.

Bill joined the law firm then known as Adams Kleemeier Hagan Hannah & Fouts (now Maynard Nexsen) in 1986. He became a partner and a firm leader throughout his practice, serving as Managing Partner of Adams Kleemeier in 2001. Later, Bill served as the Corporate/Tax Practice Group Leader for Maynard Nexsen. He continued to enjoy practicing law up until his death.

While Bill was very proud of his career, he also had many passions and hobbies, including volunteering and serving on boards of several local charitable foundations. Some of his favorite organizations were Friends for Early Breast Cancer Detection, the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina and his beloved alma maters.

He was an avid golfer, lacrosse player, racquetball player, fisherman, guitarist, sports enthusiast and a master “Dad-joke” teller. Most weekends, he could be found either playing golf at Sedgefield Country Club, scoring ACC golf tournaments, enjoying golf or football on TV or jamming on the guitar with his family and friends in his music room. He also had a deep love for travel, making it a priority over the last 15 years to see as much of the world as he could with Stevie, Ann Louise and Michael.

But most of all, Bill’s greatest joy was his 48-year marriage to Stevie, his best friend, and watching his daughter Ann Louise grow up and become a wife to Michael and a mother to Graham. He will be greatly missed.
