Young Lawyers Section: Connections

Jonathan Parisi is President of the Greensboro Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and Attorney at Spangler Estate Planning
Colleagues and Friends,
I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your support, participation, and enthusiasm throughout this past year. It has been an honor to serve as President of the Young Lawyers Section and to witness firsthand the dedication of our members to service, professionalism, and community engagement. We close out the year on a high note, with several successful events and one final opportunity to come together in celebration.
BackPack Beginnings Service Event – A Huge Success

Our recent volunteer event with BackPack Beginnings was an incredible success. YLS members came together to bag several hundred grocery bags for students and families in our community, directly supporting children facing food insecurity. It was a meaningful opportunity to give back and make a tangible impact here in Greensboro. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event so special.
YLS March Madness Bracket Challenge – Winners Announced
March Madness brought out some friendly competition within the YLS, and we are excited to announce our winners for the bracket challenge:
1st Place: Alex Snow
2nd Place: Morgan Faries
3rd Place: Casey Robinson
Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone who joined in on the fun!
Free Headshot Event – A Resounding Success
The YLS-sponsored free headshot event at the April 16th Joint GBA/24th Judicial District Meeting was a tremendous success. We had a fantastic turnout, and many members took advantage of the opportunity to update their professional photos. A very special thank you to Abigail Seymour and Sue Burch for generously volunteering their time and talents to coordinate, photograph, and edit headshots for our members. Their efforts made this event both seamless and highly valuable.
End-of-Year Celebration & Officer Elections – May 14
Please join us on May 14, 2026, at 5:30 P.M. at Oden Brewing for our YLS End-of-Year Celebration. This event will be a great opportunity to reflect on a successful year of service, networking, and professional growth. In addition, we will hold our 2026–2027 officer elections, so we encourage all members to attend and take part in shaping the future of the YLS.
Spring Swearing-In Ceremony for New Attorneys
Finally, the YLS is pleased to host our annual Spring Swearing-In Ceremony for attorneys who have recently passed the bar exam and wish to be admitted to practice in North Carolina state and/or federal court.
The ceremony will be held on:
Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 3:00 P.M.
United States Courthouse
324 W. Market Street, Greensboro
Courtroom 3 (Third Floor)
Any new attorneys interested in participating should email younglawyerssection@greensborobar.org to request application materials.
We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with the newest members of our profession!
YLS Member Spotlight: Tekia Bazemore, Legal Aid of North Carolina
Tekia Bazemore is a staff attorney with Legal Aid of North Carolina serving in the Central Intake Unit. Tekia’s practice focuses primarily on housing matters, including evictions and Fair Housing issues, as well as education advocacy for students with disabilities. In her education work, she helps ensure that students receive the services and support they are entitled to through IEPs and 504 Plans, working to secure equal access to quality public education.
Driven by a passion for public service, Tekia was inspired to pursue this work by her commitment to helping others—particularly those in underserved communities who may not fully understand their legal rights. Her day-to-day practice is centered on connecting with clients, often by phone, to identify practical solutions to urgent legal challenges. She finds the most fulfillment in easing her clients’ burdens and empowering them with knowledge, helping them navigate complex legal issues with greater confidence and clarity.
Outside of her legal work, Tekia enjoys cooking, reading urban romance novels, traveling, and getting well-earned rest. She brings both dedication and relatability to her role, even joking that many are surprised to learn she has a college-aged child. Looking ahead, Tekia has an ambitious goal: to argue—and win—a case before the United States Supreme Court.
